Project Engineer – Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical (ICE)

Job Purpose:  The Project Engineer- ICE will work with the Team Lead and the Project Managers/ Supervisors in delivering and coordinating a portfolio of projects to strict deadlines, following the client’s demands. This position will perform technical sales functions for TOSL Automation and Technology’s product lines regionally, and will provide advice, information, support and practical guidance relating to, the scheduling of resources, manpower and operations on the facilities of the client. The incumbent is responsible for liaising with the client and field representatives to ensure the smooth processing of deliverables, ensuring QA/QC of our implemented services for our projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Estimating and Projects & Operations departments to aid implementation of processes and procedures to improve efficiency, hit rate on jobs quoted and increase commercial profitability.
  • Report directly to Management and give support where needed with ongoing projects (within the group or for external clients), tenders, quotations, design calculations, design drawings, site assessments and any other functions of the department.

This includes:

– Work closely with the Team Lead to ensure departmental objectives and financial targets are met.

– Projected Project Scheduling.

– Cost estimation and tender preparation/ evaluation.

– Revenue forecasting and recognition.

– Ensure capital is managed as per KPIs.

– Contract and client management (including attending site meetings).

– Sub-contractor contractual preparation inclusive of scope of works, schedules and payment terms.

– Calculation and reporting of job cost and profitability.

– Adherence to Safety requirements/ standards. o Equipment sales and services.

– Programming and Engineering configuration of PLC’s, HMI’s, SIS Logic solvers, DCS and other industrial instrumentation and controllers utilizing the appropriate software and equipment.

  • Execute technical sales/ business development activities (such as in-person visits, presentations, trips, seminars) locally and regionally, to develop and maintain relationships with customers and key industry players (Consultants, Engineers, Contractors) to enter all available windows of business opportunity.
  • Assist in the growth and diversification of the revenue pipeline by region (Guyana, Barbados, etc) and industry (expand food and beverage, manufacturing, etc)
  • Consult with client/ engineers to ensure that design intentions are met and full customer satisfaction achieved as well as providing technical information or advice if required.
  • Support the production/review/revision of design calculations, draft designs/ drawings/ sketches showing DCS/SIS/PLC/HMI/Controller architecture, Control strategy, Control Loops, I/O distribution, Hardware Layout, Wiring and equipment selection for small to medium sized systems.
  • Review all handover documents inclusive of FAT/ SAT records, loop check sheets, product manuals and drawings, to ensure adequacy and completeness before issuance to client or consultant
  • Adhere to and implement TATL Cost and Project Management Procedures and Revenue Recognition.
  • Provide cost estimation and tender/ quotation preparation for any assigned Project Sales. Mark up on jobs must be within approved company guidelines or as approved by the General Manager. Terms of payment should be set to minimize risk to TATL and to ensure minimal levels of financing.
  • Organize request for quotations from various sub-contractors to perform the relevant works required for the projects. Request for quotations to be guided by the TATL Company policy.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly report/ projections for revenue to be submitted by 5th working day of each month and on 10th of each month (for flash purposes).
  • Liaise with equipment suppliers regarding projects on hand, equipment specifications and developments in the industry such as new products or systems.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to all company and department systems and procedures (inclusive of Pipeline/ Acumatica “live” status) so that operational efficiency and industry accepted quality are achieved. § Ensure completion of projects within schedule specified by contract/customer, taking action as required to ensure that this schedule is maintained.
  • Share information and expertise within the company and with inter-group interests (this may involve pre-set monthly or quarterly meetings with managers in addition to existing scheduled managers meetings) to enhance growth and coverage potential.
  • Efficiently execute any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualification/Skills/ Experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (Electrical and Computer preferably).
  • An equivalent combination of qualifications and work experience can be considered in lieu.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Project).
  • Proficient in MS Visio or AUTO CAD.
  • Proficient in preparing budgets and other accounting documents.
  • Project Management skills.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years working with an operating company or supporting any of the following industries – Oil and Gas, Petrochemical, Manufacturing (or combination of).
  • Experience in Technical Sales, Project Management, Contract Administration, and Instrumentation and Automation (PLC, SIS, DCS, HMI).
